Description
Robert Brickford and his family are blind-sided by a delegation from the Vatican, reporting that Brickford had been elected to the papacy; that a deadlock College of Cardinals has been inspired by miraculous events to make him the supreme pontiff. Brickford is a married, Protestant American and inclined to dismiss the invitation to an interview by the conclave. His Catholic wife persuades him to accept and against opposition within the college he is offered the appointment.
