Description
"The year is 1931. Violence is everywhere as gang wars explode across the face of the nation. Al Capone will soon spend ten years in prison, as his empire was cracking up. Hollywood reflected the era: "Little Caesar," "Public Enemy No. 1," and "Scarface." There were others, too. Killers with baby faces. This is the story of one of them." - title screens. While the title implies a New York setting, the green, leafy, country backgrounds are actually West Virginia--as the story acknowledges. This is a straight-up spaghetti gangster film--probably a big hit at the drive-in, and notable now for featuring a number of very nicely preserved period automobiles. It has all the standard gangster elements: groups of Italian guys cooking and playing cards, a funeral with lots of women in black crying, dames in glittery sequined dresses doing the Charleston, and a lot of gunplay. A lot of rather bloody gunplay. Joe Bob would approve.
